In this class, we will discuss the foundational concepts and documents in two critical categories: international humanitarian law and international human rights law. In a newly global context marked by an uptick in geopolitical conflicts, the study of IHL and IHRL is becoming increasingly important to uphold international standards. These bodies of law, while distinct, share the common goal of protecting human dignity and ameliorating the conditions of life around the world, particularly in times of armed conflict and other humanitarian crises.
Grading will be primarily based on attendance and a class-wide mock trial.
