Students in this DeCal will take on the role of science journalists. Paired with an editor, they will choose their own topics, and write a short report and a feature piece with the chance to be published in the Berkeley Medical Journal. Throughout the semester, students will engage in workshops, peer reviews, and editorial meetings designed to strengthen their scientific communication skills. In addition to guided writing support, students will complete short assignments to deepen their understanding of science journalism, conduct an interview with a research expert, and will have the opportunity to interact with an industry professional at our semesterly guest lecture. The course culminates in a final presentation of each student’s feature article, and selected articles will be considered for publication in the Berkeley Medical Journal.
