This course overviews the UC Berkeley Clean Energy Campus, the project to fully decarbonize the university and transition to 100% clean energy, including the many challenges and opportunities. We will overview the plan in its entirety, including alternatives, as well as detail student engagement and advocacy surrounding the project. They will learn about technologies, finances, labor, and the many different stakeholders involved in large energy projects, and we hope to attract students from across these disciplines. This is a great course to take if you are interested in learning about a large-scale renewable energy project in action!
Grading:
Attendance/Participation: 40%, 10* 5 = 50 points
In-person attendance is mandatory since a lot of lectures are either interactive in nature or build off of each other! You are allowed to have up to 3 unexcused absences without penalty, after which we will deduct points for missing class. Please reach out to us before class if you cannot attend, and we will mark you excused on a case-by-case basis.
Assignments: 30%, 5* 10 = 50 points
Assignments in this class are used to prepare for the following lecture, and are graded on a completion and effort basis. We will drop your lowest homework score (so you can miss an assignment without any impact on your grade). These are not meant to take more than 30 minutes - 1 hour per week.
Quizzes: 20%, 6*10 = 60 points
Quizzes will be administered at the beginning of lecture and serve as a review of content covered in previous lessons. Quizzes will be open-slides/open-note (but NOT open internet), and you will be able to work with your peers to answer the questions. These will be graded for accuracy and your lowest quiz score will be dropped.
End of Semester Reflection: 10%, 20 points
Graded on a completion/effort basis. We really value your feedback and appreciate you taking the time to make this course better for students in future semesters!
