This course is designed to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to launch and manage successful side hustles while balancing their academic commitments. Meeting once a week, the course explores various aspects of side hustles, from idea generation to execution, with a strong emphasis on practical applications. It highlights the value of building monetizable skills and the importance of diversifying income streams. Students will have the opportunity to develop their own side hustle proposals, initiate their ventures, and reflect on their overall entrepreneurial journeys.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
• Identify viable side hustle opportunities aligned with their skills and interests
• Conduct basic market research to validate side hustle ideas
• Develop a business plan for a side hustle
• Understand the financial considerations of starting a side business
• Implement effective marketing strategies for their side hustle
• Manage time effectively to balance academic commitments and entrepreneurial pursuits
• Network and build relationships to support the growth of their side hustle
• Launch and manage a side hustle, adapting to challenges as they arise
Throughout the course, students will engage in weekly assignments designed to deepen their understanding of side hustles and encourage practical application of course concepts. These assignments will include a variety of tasks, such as AI-based reflections, creative problem-solving exercises, and strategic planning activities. To maintain engagement and accountability, students will also submit weekly 1-minute video check-ins, sharing updates on their progress, challenges, and insights. At the end of the course, students will create a longer video presentation that reflects on their journey of starting and managing their side hustle, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and lessons learned. Additionally, students will write two reflection papers—one at midterm and one at the end of the course—that provide a deeper analysis of their entrepreneurial experiences, personal growth, and the skills they have developed. This structure ensures that students can actively apply what they learn, while also engaging in meaningful self-reflection to solidify their insights.
Students’ active participation and regular attendance are vital for their success in the course. If a student needs to miss a class, they are expected to notify the instructor in advance and take responsibility for catching up on missed material.
This course is designed to provide students with a supportive, engaging, and practical introduction to the world of side hustles. The primary goal is not just for students to start a side hustle, but to help them develop valuable skills and gain experiences that will serve them throughout their academic and professional lives. It offers an exciting opportunity for students to embark on an entrepreneurial journey filled with growth and learning.
