Introduction to Kidney Disease is a 2 unit (P/NP) DeCal that will elucidate various aspects of kidney disease including its types, general pathogenesis, health disparities, therapies, and pertinent careers. Allowing students to apply concepts from their core classes, this DeCal will synthesize various topics such as public health, immunology, and anatomy to the context of Kidney Disease. It will also help students understand and navigate through scientific research. Students will be evaluated on their understanding of course material via 2 open-note exams, an essay, a seminar, and effort-based assignments. Attendance is required, but students will be allowed 2 excused absences. This class is primarily geared towards students interested in human disease (e.g. pre-health, pre-PhD, pre-biotech, etc.), but students of all interests are welcome to join. No prior knowledge in biology or medicine is required. We only ask for your interest and curiosity in kidney disease!
