Through this DeCal, students will have the opportunity to teach local elementary and middle schoolers from marginalized neighborhoods in the Bay Area about climate change, environmental justice, sustainability, and youth activism.
Throughout the course, students will learn how to properly address and educate a classroom of elementary and middle schoolers, workshop their own Environmental Justice-themed lesson plans, review past EJE presentations, and give feedback to improve them for future use. In the final weeks of the course, students will venture to a local school to conduct their lesson plan and create a final project that reflects on their experience.
You must attend the first three weeks without unexcused absences to stay in the course. If not, you will be dropped from the class. For the remainder of the semester, each student will be permitted 2 unexcused absences. Homework and reading assignments are minimal. The course will be instructed by Dory Miller and Amara McEvoy.
