We designed this course to introduce students to Strawberry Creek, the urban creek that runs through campus and the reason UC Berkeley began operating on this plot of land. This semester we hope to cover the significance of Strawberry Creek and the ecosystems it supports, as well as the importance of habitat restoration programs at UC Berkeley and beyond. We'll look at the principles and approaches for restoring native habitats, with a special emphasis on the natural areas in the Strawberry Creek corridor on campus. Students will learn about Strawberry Creek’s historical and present cultural and political significance, as well as have hands-on experience with restoration activities engaging native and invasive species on its banks.
-First class is January 29th (though latecomers are welcome)
-Grade largely participation-based
-1 Final project
