This course is a mentorship program creating a space within the White-dominated environmental movement for students of color in the College of Natural Resources to build and empower community, and develop professional skills and connections. It was created by the Students of Color Environmental Collective (SCEC) to connect undergraduates with mentors in the environmental field who align with their goals and/or cultural backgrounds. Our aim is to create a meaningful pathway towards creating intergenerational connections and equip future leaders with tools to fight against environmental destruction and advance environmental justice.
Students will learn from engaging in group discussions and collaborative learning, one on one instruction and check ins, reflection writing assignments, events and mentor meetups. Mentor meetups, classes, and check-ins focus on biweekly themes: dreams, community/identity, action, self-actualization, and self-care.
