Exercise is Medicine-On Campus (EIM-OC) is an effort created in collaboration with UHS, Rec Sports, School of Public Health and Dept. of Phys Ed. Through this course, you will learn the benefits of daily exercise, explore programs on campus to help you stay active, and discover careers in healthcare that promote physical fitness and wellbeing.
Each class is unique and interactive, building upon the connections that exercise is optimal for health, is integral in the prevention and treatment of many medical conditions, and should be regularly assessed and included as part of health care. Learn from a variety of industry professionals, including physicians, physical therapists, registered dietitians, and more!
Attendance is mandatory, no exams, no papers, short "homework" every week, final group project necessary (in class time).
**As part of the class, we hope that the students will aim to perform the minimum Department of Health and Human Services recommendation for these exercise guidelines: at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week or at least 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week. We understand not everybody may be able to perform this, especially when starting, but students will be expected to perform at least 30 minutes of exercise per week as part of the homework assignments (this will be a question on every week’s attendance form). However, we do encourage the students to complete the recommended guidelines.
