Students will read and analyze Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn) through multiple critical lenses to understand the franchise's lasting popularity and impact. We will examine the historical, biographical, and intertextual influences, the intended audience of the Twilight series, and the various problems the saga presents. We will also investigate how the series impacted following young adult book series and movie adaptations and whether Twilight is “good” fiction.
We will be reading a book every two to three weeks. While this is quite a fast-paced class regarding the reading load, the course will be mainly discussion-based with a presentation due by the end of the semester. Furthermore, the schedule of readings can be changed according to the student's request.
There will be weekly reading quizzes made up of five questions due before each class. There will also be four discussion posts due after we finish each book. Discussion posts are used to spark inspiration for in-class discussion, project planning, and thinking deeper about the text.
No day(s) left until application deadline!
