Introduction to Manual Dexterity in Healthcare (IB 198) is a 2-unit course designed to develop essential fine motor skills for healthcare professions. Through weekly lectures, hands-on workshops, and guest speaker sessions, students will explore the importance of manual dexterity in medical procedures while practicing techniques to improve precision and hand coordination. Engaging activities include jewelry making, soap carving, dental instrument practice, clay modeling, and suturing exercises, all aimed at enhancing skills relevant to healthcare settings. Students will also gain awareness of occupational health concerns related to manual work. This course is valuable for aspiring healthcare professionals and anyone interested in improving their manual dexterity, with no prerequisites required. Evaluation includes attendance, participation, quizzes, and papers. Classes meet Tuesdays from 5:00-6:30 PM in 240 Mulford Hall.
