Are you curious about exploring a career in teaching? Are you interested in learning more about the teaching profession and the field of education? Join the Intro to Teaching DeCal happening Fall semester! Classes meet Wednesdays 6-8pm starting September 11.
This course provides a real-world view into what it looks and feels like to be a teacher in today’s world, with a particular emphasis on urban schools serving historically marginalized communities. This is a hands-on course where students will meet K-12 educators, visit local schools, and collaborate on education focused projects. Topics covered include:
- The day-to-day experiences of teachers in our local communities and their journey into teaching
- Pathways into teaching and advice for college students considering a career in teaching
- Teacher diversity and the experiences and career trajectories of BIPOC educators
- Culturally responsive teaching
- Different school models and innovations in school design that reimagine approaches to teaching and learning - and the role of teachers
- National issues and trends shaping the field of education
