This one-unit course provides an introduction to the ancient board game of Go, also known as Weiqi and Baduk. The course schedule consists of one-hour lectures each week. Students need to spend at least an hour each week after class to play games, solve tsumegoes, and review.
Through a combination of lectures, practice games, puzzles, and game analysis, students will learn the basic rules of Go, as well as essential tactics and strategies for successful play. No prior knowledge of Go is required for this course. By the end of the course, students will have developed a solid foundation in the fundamentals of Go and will be equipped to continue their study and practice of the game.
There are no papers or exams for this course. Students need to complete at least 1 game with one of the instructors to pass the course. There can be up to 2 unexcused absences. There will also be worksheets and games to be played online for almost each week of the course. However, students will be able to experience the fun of learning this sport through those games and solving problems.
