MUSA 174 is an introduction to Category Theory, a field of math often used at higher levels but rarely taught. Category Theory exhibits a unifying language for various areas of math, so that a "group product" and "ring product" and "product of topological spaces" are no longer just similar constructions but become literally the same thing.
The course is essentially a "real" math class. We look at definitions and proofs alongside concepts. Most classes will be lecture with homework assigned at the end. Attendance is mandatory for every class. There may be an end-of-semester exam. We want students to learn, not stress, so grading is intentionally lax (but not so lax it's a "free two credit" course)
