This course aims to create a space for students to critically engage with various topics regarding medical racism. In most pre-health courses, racism and inequality in medicine is often ignored. This class will focus on the structural institutions that create and maintain systems of oppression in healthcare as well as the consequences of medical racism for patients. In addition to exploring these topics, we also aim to guide students through meaningful reflection and dialogue. Students will learn how oppressive societal structures perpetuate racial disparities in medicine and the consequences this has for patients of color. As aspiring physicians, students will learn how to identify and interrupt instances of medical racism in hospital settings.
