This course serves as an important introduction to both medical reasoning and practice. It introduces concepts of public health for pre-healthcare majors, highlighting the role of the individual healthcare practitioner in preventing common causes of morbidity and mortality. Subspecialties within internal medicine and their related preventive medicine strategies will be explored. Through educating on the intersectionality of two medical specialties - preventative medicine and internal medicine- students will be given the resources to better support the healthcare needs of the community. In addition, as a result of this course, students will become cognizant of the social determinants and lifestyle influences affecting medicine.
