This is an introductory course intended for students interested in the principles of data visualization and their applications with R. Students will explore a wide range of topics using ggplot2 and other packages, including but not limited to:
- Design principles (e.g. visual perception, good practices, basic color theory)
- Animated & interactive graphics
- The importance, selection & evaluation of graphs
We welcome all majors who have completed or are currently enrolled in a course with an introduction to R, such as STAT 20, 33A, 33B, 133; PB HLTH 142 (or equivalent experience such as Data 8 with a willingness to learn R).
Assignments include bi-weekly homework, 2 course reflections, 2 take-home quizzes, and a brief final project. All students will have 9 slip days.
