This course will introduce students to the field of transportation planning also known as Transportation Demand Management (TDM) in the United States. We discuss the strategies that TDM has in place and what they do to mitigate the demand for parking and private vehicle travel. We will also discuss some strategies used by UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation to demonstrate how TDM affects our own transportation and mobility.
This course will provide a brief overview of the history of transportation in the US and discuss the impact the invention of the automobile has had on shaping cities and mobility options.
We will discuss inequalities in the realm of transit that affect mobility, public transportation headway access, and accessibility.
Attendance is Mandatory: there are two short assignments and a group reflection.
