Course Description and Objectives:
In this course, we will watch and delve deeply into the nine main movies of the Star Wars Franchise. We will be covering one movie a week and utilize our weekly meeting time to discuss the myriad details of the movies. Our goal is to analyze these films through a fresh literary lens. We will explore artistic decisions, setting, character development and interpretations, individual movie and franchise themes, tropes, and other aspects found in the movies. We also aim to cover the impacts and inspirations brought forth from this franchise.
This course is intended both for individuals who have never watched a Star Wars movie and those who may be avid fans. The objective of this course is to create a space for enthusiastic conversations, curious inquiries, and academic discussions on a franchise that has left a deep impact on American culture, films, and individuals around the world.
Key Learning Outcomes:
Students will gain a better understanding of the Star Wars films and franchise, literature, and pop culture. Through this mode of study, students will be able to write, speak, discuss, evaluate, and explore their own creative outlets based on the aforementioned elements.
Classes will be held Wednesdays 6:30pm to 8pm in Evans 3 starting January 24th.
