Class Code - #18901
Class Time - Thursdays, 3:30-5:00 PM
PolSci 198 is a chance for students to garner a stronger understanding of varying levels of our current political system, focusing specifically on decoding the intricacies of California public policy into comprehensible, applicable, and practical information that can bolster student civic engagement and empower activism.
Each week of the curriculum is structured to present students with information about different sites of political developments, techniques for engaging within such circles, and methods/opportunities for students to begin their advocacy journey. Spanning from explanations of institutional structures and practices; guidance into avenues of accessing information, officials, and influencers; and advice on diplomatic and persuasive communication; students will learn how they can integrate their own knowledge and strengths into advocacy efforts. Through interactions with influential guest speakers, this course additionally offers students the ability to engage and gain insight from those who are actively involved in relevant processes in such fields.
Ultimately, the foundational teachings of this course should provide students with the tools they can carry to participate in California politics and take a stand in advocacy.
