In an age where scientific literacy is paramount, inspiring a love for science among youth is more important than ever. Not only does it nurture informed citizens, but it also cultivates future innovators and leaders. However, inspiring this passion requires a unique set of skills, different from traditional classroom teaching. This course will arm you with the tools, mindset, and techniques to make science come alive for the youth in your community. By teaching science not just as a subject, but as a process of discovery, you will ensure that our youth remain curious, questioning, and ever-eager to learn.
In the Instruction phase of the class, you will explore the significance of youth-centered science education, and learn how to blend engaging demonstrations with core scientific principles, through presentations from the instructors and guest speakers. Transitioning to the Application phase, you will collaborate in small teams to design fun hands-on experiments that highlight a fundamental scientific concept. This culminating project will be brought to life as you present your team's demonstrations to an elementary school audience in the Berkeley community!
Designed to foster effective pedagogical techniques for teaching science to the youth in our community, this course emphasizes the importance of hands-on learning, discovery, and curiosity. There will be short homework graded on completion and no assessments of any kind--- just come eager to learn!
No day(s) left until application deadline!
