want to build community and learn about Environmentalism from a Decolonial lens? join the “Decolonizing Environmentalism” decal! our decal strives to uplift Indigenous voices and affirm traditional ecological knowledge, illuminating how it has the power to complement and correct current western environmental solutions. we believe that the environmental cause is inextricably tied to the anti-colonial and anti-capitalist movements. when finding solutions, we must address these critical roots and connections in order to avoid operating with the same perspectives and paradigms that have created environmental and social injustices. importantly, we hope to center healing and restoration as we navigate the painful past and present. we hope to empower communities to imagine what a more equitable world could look like, and how our roles within this new imagining can take shape!
this is a 2 unit class and we meet on tuesdays from 6:30-8! we welcome anyone from any department, and no background in this field is needed to join. it’s a class centered around building curiosity and unlearning our western environmental frameworks; grading is based on presence and engagement with few formal assignments. part of our course will focus on decolonization in action through external events. here’s the application link below - note the application is just for us to gauge interest, we plan on accommodating all who are interested - please spread the word!
