This course is intended to teach students how to use 3D printers and other additive manufacturing methods. We will briefly cover CAD and software associated with 3D printing processes. Hands-on exploration of hardware will be our primary focus. Our course will cover the basics of 3D printing, the engineering complexities of how 3D printing can be done at an advanced level, how to build and modify 3D printers and provide an introduction to more niche fields of additive manufacturing. We are open to all majors and backgrounds and have structured the class so that beginners and experts can get helpful information. For students hoping to earn units from learning additive manufacturing, we will host a DeCal in Spring 2023. There will be no formal exams, just completion of projects and participation in labs. Attendance will be mandatory with 1-2 excused absenses.
