This one-unit course provides an introduction to the ancient board game of Go, also known as Weiqi and Baduk. The course schedule consists of one-hour lectures each week. Students need to spend at least an hour each week after class to play games, solve tsumegoes, and review. Through a combination of lectures, practice games, puzzles, and game analysis, students will learn the basic rules of Go, as well as essential tactics and strategies for successful play. No prior knowledge of Go is required for this course. By the end of the course, students will have developed a solid foundation in the fundamentals of Go and will be equipped to continue their study and practice of the game.
There are no official "papers" for this class, while students will need to complete a take-home worksheet for midterm on all of the concepts touched on until the week of the midterm. For the final exam, students must schedule a game with one of the facilitators and record and review the game before RRR week.
Participation includes answers to reading questions at the beginning of each class and game review time during the second half of the class. Reading questions can cover readings from homework material or from the lecture of the previous week. This will be graded out of five points every class: two points for attendance, and three points for reading questions.
No day(s) left until application deadline!
