Interested in environmental health? This course introduces students to various topics and professions within environmental health to bridge the gap between general interest in the world around us and concrete ideas about how to get involved. We aim to introduce students to the intersection between the environment and how this can affect and influence our health.
Throughout this course, we will introduce key speakers within different sectors of the field with the purpose of getting to know what exactly it is that these speakers do and how they became involved in environmental health. This course is aimed at any and all students interested in delving deeper into how human health is influenced by their environment.
During the course, we hope to present between 1 and 3 articles as required weekly readings, and short, open-ended reflections will also be due weekly. We intend for students to open-endedly reflect on the overall message of the readings and enhance discussions during class. We also aim to improve students’ research, leadership, and presentation skills with a student facilitation activity towards the end of the course. Grading will be dependent on these assignments as well as attendance and discussion participation.
