This course is open to students of all backgrounds and levels of understanding. The course is centered around a communal learning process, and we want everyone to have a say in what we learn together.
Our first lecture will be Wednesday, February 1 from 5-7 pm in the Social Sciences Building Room 175. We will meet on Wednesdays from 5-7. We have reserved two hours, but the class discussions will usually be an hour to an hour and a half and the last part of the class will be office hours. Please come to class to get the course code to enroll. Also, please think of topics/readings you would like to study over the semester so we can discuss them as a group.
This course will be a discussion of different types of radical theories that apply to our lives right now. We seek to develop a comprehensive understanding of the economic system of capitalism, the contradictions within it, and the way in which economic systems have contributed to and play a role in many socio-political issues in both the United States and the World. We discuss historical socio-economic conflicts to acquire a historical understanding and analytic lens on present-day issues. By the end of the class students will have skills in synthesizing and analyzing economic, social, and political systems. Students will gain critical thinking skills they can apply to their studies and real life. Communal discussion will be important in this course, and we hope to encourage students to consider positive changes that can be made to the systems at hand.
Feel free to email us with any questions.
