Have you ever wanted to learn how to converse with Cantonese-speaking friends, order Dim Sum in Chinatown, or understand Hong Kong movie dialogue or song lyrics? Well this is the class for you! This class will teach you how to introduce yourself to that cute international student and impress your friends with funny slangs! Learn about Cantonese culture and food alongside other equally excited students.

There are no prerequisites for the course, though we cannot accept fluent Cantonese speakers (defined as someone who can carry on a conversation rather well. If you are unsure of your level, come to orientation and we can assess your abilities). We do take native Mandarin speakers, as long as they do not speak much Cantonese. We're here to share the language with more people :)

Beginner classes are for students with little to no exposure to the language.
Intermediate classes are for students with some exposure and can at least introduce themselves in Cantonese. Students who pass the beginner class may also be eligible for the intermediate level.

If you're interested in teaching Cantonese, we also offer units to staff. No teaching experience is required because we'll provide you with the training, but you must be verbally fluent in Cantonese.

Enrollment into the class is based on your application so show us your passion and excitement for learning Cantonese and the culture! If you're accepted, the first class will start the week of January 23rd. *If you are interested in taking the intermediate level class, we will arrange an additional informal chat with selected students before the first class (the week of January 23rd) to ensure that you are suited to take this course. Decisions will be released on Monday.
